Canolfan Hen Ysgol Bodorgan – AGM - 26th November 2025-12-02
Thank you for being with us this evening, we are pleased to see you all.
An Amazing year!
To quote Dickens “ it was the worst of times, it was the best of times!”
The school closed in Summer 2019 . Look at it now – a smart welcoming place full of promise. Thanks to all those volunteers who have put so much into it.
The untimely death of Ray Robertshaw could not have come at a worse time. His contribution aided by his wife Jan, has been massive and consistent during his time as Chairman. Fortunately he lived to see his dream fulfilled and this gave him great peace of mind. He saw the completion of the purchase of the freehold early this year for £90,000 from Anglesey County Council. Many thanks to ACC who have been enthusiastically supporting us in the project.
I want to stress that you, the community, now own the freehold of this valuable property with the playing field of some three acres. It is yours to enjoy, govern, run and develop as appropriate. It is also the responsibility of all of us to make a success of it.
The National Lottery and the Wales Government among other agencies , have funded the building work which is almost complete. However, a new heating system is needed to conform to the new standards. Applications are being submitted for the considerable sums involved.
You will see our range of activities is ever expanding – both inside and out.
New activities are being added daily - a bereavement cafe and walks are bringing solace. The dementia group is currently underused at present, and this is being addressed. Any ideas you may have – let’s have them!
The circulation of information is vital – facebook, local notice boards, and the press. Communication will always be of utmost importance. Word of mouth is the most effective way and we can all play a part in this. The new website has great possibilities.
We are very proud to have received the King’s Award for Voluntary Services and this is a tremendous honour for a community centre in it’s infancy. We would wish to thank Dr Philip Ashurst who nominated the Canolfan earlier this year. Jude, our Centre Manager has been interviewed on the radio and we are gradually being able to increase our profile. I could go on about the marvels of this special place and the people who have made it so.
Thank you again and if you wish to play an active role in the future, please come forward and talk to us, we welcome and need you all. The management team will be on hand at the end of the meeting to listen to any queries you may have.

Chair.
